The new version of SRC Software's corporate performance management suite provides fully integrated planning, budgeting, reporting and scorecarding applications, the company says. Thomas Malone, president and CEO of Portland, Ore.-based SRC, says that now customers can access all the applications with a single sign-on from one launch point, and all the applications can share data. Because the code for the modules was done at the same time, they all have the same look and feel, Malone says, adding that "the single source code base synchronizes long-range planning with short-term planning."

Ruth Igawa, assistant controller of the American Savings Bank in Hawaii, says the single sign-on makes it easier for the 125 bank employees who use SRC to move between the different applications. The bank, with $370 million of 2003 revenues, has been an SRC customer since 2001 and started using the new version in February. Previously, when the modules were less integrated, users had to type in URLs if they hadn't bookmarked the applications. "If you're not a good typist, you end up in strange places," Igawa says. Now, with a navigation panel on the left hand side, "budgeting, reporting–you're just a click away," she says.

Making Every Dollar on Tech Count

New PeopleSoft software lets execs check progress of IT projects

Technology spending is expected to pick up this year as the economy revives and companies gear up to comply with Sarbanes-Oxley's Section 404 and other regulations. For companies worried that some of that IT funding may be wasted, PeopleSoft has rolled out Enterprise Service Automation for IT (ESA), software that was designed to manage and integrate your IT portfolio.

Susan Kane, PeopleSoft's vice president of financial applications marketing, says CIOs and CFOs are stuck trying to cut costs at the same time they face increasing regulatory requirements. Their solution? "They're starting to look at running IT like a business," Kane says. IT governance "means a solution that gives the company new visibility into IT to help increase the effectiveness of its resource utilization."

ESA's various modules, which include program management and proposal management, can be purchased separately. ESA allows companies to keep tabs on individual IT projects and the employees working on them. It also provides a dashboard that lets finance and IT executives track whether projects are on time and on budget.

The Portable Payroll Card

Atlanta-based SunTrust Bank has added a new wrinkle to payroll cards: Employees not only get a card, but they get the electronic bank account that backs it. And, they can take both with them to a new job. "The employee owns the account, not the company," says Scott Peterson, managing director of SunTrust Treasury Management Services. Like other cards,

SunTrust's lets employees withdraw funds from an ATM and make purchases at stores that accept debit cards. But SunTrust's card also helps workers establish a credit history and allows them to get a sub-account and a second card for another family member. Peterson says the second card could be an inexpensive way for employees to send money to relatives overseas.
