Archer Daniels Midland Co., the $44 billion processor of oilseeds, corn and wheat, based in Decatur, Ill., named Steven Mills executive vice president and CFO. Mills, 52, succeeds Douglas Schmalz, who will retire. Mills joined ADM in 1979 and has served in a variety of senior treasury and accounting roles before being named controller in 1994. He was named vice president in 2000 and group vice president in 2002. Four years later he was named to his most recent role as senior vice president of strategic planning.
Southern Co., the $14.4 billion company, with headquarters based in Atlanta has named W. Paul Bowers executive vice president and CFO. Bowers, 51, replaces Thomas A. Fanning, now the company's COO. Bowers joined Southern 28 years ago at Gulf Power. Most recently, he served as president of Southern Company Generation, the business unit that manages production, fleet operations, planning, engineering and fuel procurement for Southern's 280 coal, oil, gas and hydro generating units at 73 plants.
Kimberly-Clark Corp. appointed Steve E. Voskuil vice president and treasurer of the $16.7 billion producer of personal paper products, based in Irving, Texas. Voskuil replaces Jolene Varney, who left the company. Voskuil brings 16 years of experience with KCC to his new post. He began his career in 1992 as a financial analyst and has since held various roles of increasing responsibility. Most recently, Voskuil served as KCC's director of customer development for the North Atlantic consumer product's Safeway sales team.

Cadbury Schweppes Americas Beverages, the U.S. division of the $14.5 billion, British chocolate and beverage company Cadbury Schweppes, has named Jolene Varney senior vice president of corporate finance. Prior to joining Cadbury, Varney served as vice president and treasurer for Kimberly-Clark Corp. She joined KCC in 1989 and eventually assumed the roles of general manager first in London for Western Europe, then for Central and Eastern Europe. Her job posts spanned operations, M&A and strategy.
Alcatel-Lucent is naming Mark Gibbens deputy CFO of the Paris-based, $16.2 billion telecom company. Gibbens, who is scheduled to move to his new post in Paris in March, currently heads up Alcatel-Lucent Investment Management. Gibbens joined Lucent Technologies Inc. in 2000 as assistant treasurer and was promoted to treasurer in 2003. Before Lucent, he worked for General Motors Corp. and Online Retail Partners. His treasury won the 2004 Alexander Hamilton Award for Overall Excellence for its in-house bank implementation.
USAA, the $13.4 billion diversified financial services company, based in San Antonio, named Kristi Matus CFO. Matus, 39, succeeds Joe Robles, who was named USAA's CEO. Matus came to the company in 2002 as vice president of USAA Life Insurance Co. By 2004 she was named president and CEO of the insurance company, then in January 2007 she added the responsibility for operations of USAA Investment Management Co. Prior tp joining USAA, Matus served as executive vice president and COO for Thrivent Financial Bank.
State Street Corp. the $9.5 billion provider of financial services to institutional investors, with headquarters in Boston, named David Gutschenritter treasurer. Gutschenritter, 50, replaces CFO, Edward J. Resch, who held both titles. Before State, Gutschenritter spent 22 years with FleetBoston, where he served as director of capital planning. He then joined State in 2004 as director of capital planning. He was then promoted to executive vice president and department head, after serving as director of global liability and capital management.
Pitney Bowes, the $5.7 billion mail management company, based in Stamford, has named Michael Monahan executive vice president and CFO. Monahan, 47, replaces Bruce Nolop, who is leaving. Monahan currently serves as executive vice president and president of Mailstream Solutions and Services Americas. He came to Pitney in 1988 as manager of accounting from PricewaterhouseCoopers and has since served as assistant controller, director of investor relations and vice president of corporate development.
