Financial Executives: Keeping Track

Penn National Gaming, a Wyomissing, Pa.-based operator of gaming facilities and race tracks with $2.36 billion of 2009 revenue, hired Mario Kontomerkos as corporate vice president of finance, a new position for the company. Kontomerkos, 34, most recently founded a private equity firm, Lycavitos LLC. Earlier, he worked as an investment manager and analyst at Magnetar Capital, TPG Capital and JP Morgan Securities.

John Hafferty was appointed CFO of Pacer International, a $2 billion freight transportation company in Dublin, Ohio. He succeeds Brian Kane, who will leave in early June. Hafferty, 53, is joining Pacer from Ozburn-Hessey Logistics, where he was CFO for the international division. Earlier, he was senior vice president of corporate strategy and development at Schenker Americas and worked at UPS, where his positions included CFO of the international package operation and executive vice president of the supply chain solutions business.
