Healthcare Reform Faces Religious Challenge (Reuters)

Supreme Court clears way for lawsuit from Christian college.

Healthcare reform will get another court hearing after the Supreme Court yesterday gave a green light to a lawsuit filed by a Christian college that argues the law forces employers to subsidize contraception and abortions, Reuters reports. Liberty University filed its lawsuit against healthcare reform on the day President Obama signed it into law in 2010.

The university says requiring employers to subsidize contraception and abortions runs counter to freedom of religion. It may also argue that Congress exceeded its powers by passing a law that requires companies of a certain size to provide healthcare coverage to employees
