Treasury & Risk's Annual Women in Finance Survey

Getting bolder; getting better.

While women believe they have taken a big stride this year in closing the gender gap at the top level of corporate America, the barrier still exists. Certainly, the two women contenders in the national elections–Hillary Clinton, vying for the Democratic presidential nomination for the last 18 months, and Sarah Palin as the Republican VP nominee–have put the issue in the spotlight. In Treasury & Risk’s 2008 Women in Finance survey, the percentage of women respondents who still see a glass ceiling dropped 13 points to 82% from 95 %. The percentage of men respondents who can see there’s an invisible lid, however, remained the same at 35%. Although 39% of women executives still think that they would be dumped more quickly than their male colleagues in troubled times, that’s 15% less than last year.
