John Joyce, formerly CFO at IBM, has joined Silver Spring Networks as its CFO and vice chairman. He replaces Warren Jenson, previously the CFO at Electronic Arts, who is staying with Redwood City, Calif.-based Silver Spring as its chief operating officer. Joyce, 56, was most recently a managing director of Silver Lake Partners, a technology investment firm with more than $14 billion in assets under management. He spent 30 years at IBM, including a stint as president of IBM Asia Pacific.
Dow Jones & Co., publisher of the Wall Street Journal and a subsidiary of Rupert Murdoch's $33 billion News Corp., named Kevin Halpin CFO and executive vice president. He replaces Stephen Daintith, who is leaving to join British newspaper publisher Daily Mail & General Trust. Halpin, 54, comes to Dow Jones from its parent, where he was most recently senior vice president of finance, and before that, vice president.
U.S. Concrete, a Houston-based company with $534 million in 2009 sales, named James Lewis CFO and senior vice president. He replaces Robert Hardy, the CFO since 2004, who left in June for another company. Lewis is joining U.S. Concrete from McDermott International, where he had served as treasurer and vice president since 2006, and as assistant treasurer from 2003 until 2006. Lewis, 55, also worked at Enron Corp. for eight years in various finance roles.

USA Mobility, a $290 million business-to-business wireless communications company in Springfield, Va., promoted Shawn Endsley to CFO. He succeeds Thomas Schilling, who is leaving to pursue another opportunity. Endsley, 55, had served as the company's controller since 2004. Replacing Endsley as controller is MyLe Chang, 40, who was formerly senior director of financial reporting.
Universal Insurance Holdings named George De Heer CFO and principal accounting officer. He replaces James Lynch, who is stepping down to become director of financial analysis after a recent illness. De Heer, 50, has been vice president of finance for Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Universal for four years and served as acting CFO while Lynch was sick. Prior to joining Universal, De Heer worked for 15 years at Bristol West Insurance Group, where his last position was controller and vice president. Universal Insurance reported revenue of $210 million in 2009.
Red Lion Hotels, a Spokane, Wash.-based hotel chain with $165 million in 2009 revenue, appointed Sandi Heffernan corporate controller. Heffernan, 39, most recently was senior director of financial accounting and reporting for NightHawk Radiology Holdings in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Earlier, she worked in finance and accounting at Pepsico Food Services, Dell and the National Football League.
