Avnet Technology Solutions, an $8.1 million unit of Avnet, named Cookie Serrano vice president of finance. She replaces Steve Chlupsa, who has moved to a position with Avnet Technology Solutions' global finance team. Serrano, 43, will oversee the unit's finance teams in the U.S. and Canada. She most recently was vice president of finance at Goodrich and earlier worked in finance and accounting at Motorola and U.S. Foodservice Corp.
John Kuhlow was promoted to controller and vice president at J.B. Hunt Transport Services, a $3.7 billion Arkansas-based transportation services company. As controller, he succeeds Don Cope, who is retiring at the end of October. Kuhlow, 40, joined the company in 2006 as assistant corporate controller from KPMG, where he was a senior manager in the audit department.
Covanta, a $1.6 billion renewable energy company in Morristown, N.J., named Alan Katz vice president of investor relations. He replaces Marisa Jacobs, who is leaving to pursue another opportunity. Katz previously worked in investor relations at WNS Holdings and Hertz Global Holdings. Earlier, he was a co-founder of the investor relations practice at CJP Communications.

C. Mark Hussey was named CFO, treasurer and executive vice president of Huron Consulting Group, a $604 million Chicago consultancy. He succeeds James Rojas, who was named COO in March. Hussey, 50, joins Huron from Crosscom National, where he was CFO. Earlier, Hussey served as CFO at Information Resources and worked in finance, accounting and investor relations positions at EZLinks Golf, Dominick's Finer Foods and Quaker Oats Co.
Digital River, a $363 million provider of e-commerce software, named Stefan Schulz CFO. He replaces Tom Donnelly, who was named president of the Minneapolis-based company in March. Schulz, 44, most recently was CFO of Lawson Software. Earlier, he served as corporate controller and vice president of revenue operations at BMC Software and worked at Arthur Andersen.
Chris Ashe was appointed senior vice president and CFO of New York Life Insurance Co.'s retirement income security unit. He succeeds Steve Lash, who was named CFO of another New York Life unit, U.S. life & agency. Ashe, 40, joins New York Life from Prudential Financial, where he spent 16 years, most recently as vice president of financial and strategic planning for its annuities unit. Ashe has also served as CFO of the retirement division of Genworth Financial and as assistant controller and operations director at Wachovia Corp.
Brookline Bancorp, the Brookline, Mass., parent company of two banks, named Julie Gerschick CFO and treasurer. She replaces Paul Bechet, Brookline's CFO since 1997, who is retiring. Gerschick, 54, was founder and president of Andover Group, a consulting company to financial institutions. She also worked at KPMG and was senior vice president at Great Lakes Bancorp.
