On any given day at lunchtime or after work, finance and treasury professionals may be gathering somewhere in the United States to discuss trends and topics relevant to their work. The Association for Financial Professionals, for example, which counts 16,000 finance and treasury executives as members, has 57 independent regional groups. Meetings: Face-to-face and virtual roundtables periodically in select cities

Who's eligible: Members of AFP who are corporate treasurers, assistant treasurers, CFOs, vice presidents of finance or controllers are automatically enrolled.
Popular topics: Risk management with a focus on counterparty risk, capital structure, treasury metrics, global treasury structures, short-term investment and pensions.
Upcoming: AFP's annual conference in the fall includes an executive institute just for members of the Corporate Treasurers Council. This year's conference is in Miami on Oct. 14-17.

Popular topics: Though the club doesn't feature specific topics, their speakers this year come from the healthcare, banking and real estate industries. They will also be featuring a former sports icon as a motivational speaker.
Upcoming: The next season begins in September featuring the president and CEO of Joslin Diabetes Center as a speaker. The club is working hard to diversify its membership, with more women joining and the group's makeup becoming younger overall.
Detroit Treasury Management Association
Meetings: Three regular meetings in January, March and September that offer continuing education credits.
Members: 120, primarily bankers and practitioners
Popular topics: Payment automation, virtual credit cards, working capital management and fraud and fraud prevention.
Upcoming: The group hopes to grow its membership.
Houston Treasury Management Association
Meetings: 6 meetings a year
Members: 200 treasury executives from industries including energy, healthcare, utilities and manufacturing.
Popular topics: Topics this year included NACHA, lockboxes, social media and One Card programs.
Upcoming: On Sept. 13, the Houston group will host its annual Space City Cash Conference, with sessions on topics such as excess corporate cash, invoice automation, money-market funds and mobile payments.
National Association of Corporate Treasurers
Meetings: Two national meetings per year plus monthly teleconferences, all organized around the theme "treasurers talking to treasurers."
Members: 200-300
Who's eligible: Treasury professionals
Popular topics: The most recent teleconference was in conjunction with the U.K.'s Association of Corporate Treasurers and discussed the euro and the needs of treasurers with operations in Spain or Greece. Other popular topics have been those related to derivatives and money market fund regulation.
Upcoming: This year's "Fall Day of Technical Discussions" will be held in Chicago on November 8.
Philadelphia Association for Financial Professionals
Meetings: Monthly
Members: 200 practitioners and bankers
Popular topics: Some of the group's more popular topics have been the economic outlook for 2012, the status of B2B practices, NACHA, same-day ACH, foreign exchange and China.
Upcoming: The group will hold its September meeting at the National Constitution Center, an interactive history museum.
Treasury Management Association of New York
Meetings: Eight monthly meetings a year with financial speakers
Members: More than 100 corporate treasury executives and bankers.
Popular topics: Past meetings have focused on money-market best practices, extended remittance information for wire payments and epayment strategies.
