The former CFO of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia has been sentenced to two to seven years in prison for embezzling $906,000, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Anita Guzzardi stole 330 checks drawing on the church treasury. The defense painted her as a gambling addict on a binge, while the prosecution claimed she was motivated by greed, spending the money on credit card bills, expensive shoes and travel.

The judge denied the defense's request for probation. Guzzardi has already repaid the archdiocese $260,000, but has been ordered to pay restitution of $646,627.
