With China, Europe and the U.S. all facing economic problems, U.S. companies are frantically searching for profitable business opportunities around the world, according to a CNBC story. Emerging markets look like the best bet to many companies.

For example, Caterpillar CEO Doug Oberhelman cites the equipment manufacturer's operations in Brazil, India and Russia as efforts that are bearing fruit. CEO Irene Rosenfeld of Mondelez International, the global snacks business spun off by Kraft, also points to emerging markets, in particular India and China, as promising opportunities.
